Every Day English - It feels like home.
“It feels like home.”
People often say this to talk about the place they live. I have a few students who are from the countryside, but now they live in Fukuoka City. One student said to me last week “Fukuoka feels like home now.” So she means she is most comfortable here and this is where she wants to be.
When I moved into my new apartment there was no furniture, no appliances, nothing! However, I spent time furnishing my apartment, decorating the walls, and putting house plants and personal items around the house. Now I can finally say “It feels like home.” Also, I didn’t know the Hirao neighbourhood so well before. These days, though, I got to know it and like it a lot, so it feels like home. I can also say “I feel at home here.”

“It feels like home.”＝「我が家のように感じる」
人々は自分が住んでいるところについて、よくこんな風に言いますね。
私の生徒さんの中にも、出身は地方で、今は福岡市に住まれている方が何人かいらっしゃいます。“Fukuoka feels like home now.” ＝「福岡は今では我が家のよう」と言うと、その人にとってここが最も居心地がよく、他でもなくここにいたいのだ、ということになります。
私が新しい部屋に引っ越したときは、家具もなく、家電もなく、何もなかったんです！
しかし、時間をかけて部屋に物をそろえ、壁を飾りつけ、観葉植物や個人的なものを置きました。そして今やっとこう言えるのです “It feels like home.” 。また、私は平尾エリアについて良くしりませんでした。最近ではたくさん知ることもでき、とても好きになりました、我が家のように感じます！こういう言い方もできますよ、“I feel at home here.”＝「ここでは我が家にいるような気持ちになれる」。
